AN EVENING DEDICATED TO VASIL AMASHUKELI AT THE KUTAISI THEATRE, VISITING THE TBILISI FUNICULAR, Batumi Suliko Zhghenti Cinema Museum of Adjara Museum, Batumi State University of Arts

  • Genre: Documentary
  • Content: The first film captures a festive meeting of Vasil Amashukeli - a prominent Georgian cinematographer (the author of the first Georgian full-length documentary film "Akaki's Journey to Racha-Lechkhumi in 1912") - at the Lado Meskhishvili Drama Theatre in Kutaisi. This event may be associated with the awarding of the title of the Public Artist to the filmmaker in 1974. The second film captures Karlo Gogodze, a well-known Georgian screenwriter and film historian, who made an outstanding contribution to the research and international recognition of Vasil Amashukeli's work. In this regard, the personal correspondence between K. Gogodze and the French film historian Georges Sadoul holds great archival and historical value. It should be noted that 2026 marks the 140th anniversary of Vasil Amashukeli's birth; therefore, against this background, the discovery of new archival materials is of particular importance. Although the second film falls into the category of amateur-family newsreels, it contains unique footage of the early 1960s.
