To mark the 100th anniversary of Dodo Abashidze's birth, an exhibition titled "Dodo Abashidze – 100" has opened at the exhibition pavilion of the National Archives of Georgia.

The exhibit features photos depicting Abashidze’s theater and film roles, portraits, and family archive images. Alongside the exhibition, a presentation of a commemorative postage stamp, "David (Dodo) Abashidze – 100 Years," designed by Badri Gagnidze and issued by Georgian Post, was also held.

The exhibition was opened by Teona Iashvili, Director General of the National Archives, and Zaza Abashidze, Dodo Abashidze’s son. The special postage stamp was introduced to the public by Levan Chikvaidze, General Director of Georgian Post.

Dodo Abashidze began his acting career in 1949 at the Rustaveli State Drama Theater, where he performed in over 20 plays in just seven years. From 1954, he appeared in films, portraying more than 50 characters, including notable roles like Bichiko (“The Cricket,” 1954), Abdushahil (“Bashi-Achuki,” 1956), Dghvira (“The White Caravan,” 1963), Omar Margania (“Matsi Khvitia,” 1966), Sosana (“The Big Green Valley,” 1967), Mamamze Eristavi (“The Master’s Right Hand,” 1969), Alexander (“Light in Our Windows,” 1969), the Pristavi (“The Melodies of Vera Quarter,” 1973), Jason (“The First Swallow,” 1975), Papa Gabrieli (“The Summit,” 1976), Varlam (“Racha, My Love,” 1977), Arkifo Seturi (“Data Tutashkhia,” 1977), Kvarkvare (“Kvarkvare,” 1978), Giorgi (“Roots,” 1987), among others.

In celebration of Abashidze’s centenary, his film The First Swallow, directed by Nana Mchedlidze, was screened at the National Archives' cinema as part of the third international festival of archival films in Tbilisi.
