The National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia is hosting the Third International Archival Film Festival, which will feature the programs of film institutions from 14 countries.

Film archive institutions from the USA, Czech Republic, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Croatia, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Peru, and Moldova will present films that have been preserved in their collections to the Georgian public in keeping with the 2024 festival's theme, "Cinema – the Chronicler of History."

The National Archives' cinema will host the film festival from September 17–20, 2024. Giorgi Shengelaia's 1962 picture "Alaverdoba," which was just given to the National Archives in its pre-censored form, will open it. On a film tape that the director's family kept, the movie is preserved in its original format.

 

The second film in the Georgian lineup, "Pirveli Mertskhali," directed by Nana Mchedlidze (1975), will close the film festival. The National Film Center of Georgia will present the movie. Actor Dodo Abashidze's 100th birthday is commemorated with this exhibition.

A panel discussion with leaders from cinema institutes throughout the world will be the festival's highlight this year. They will discuss the importance of film archives and the challenges that are encountered in this field, drawing on their personal experiences and viewpoints. Film as cultural heritage, national identity, and social context will be the main topics of debate.

The Tbilisi International Archive Film Festival was founded in 2022 by the National Archives of Georgia.
