In the first six months of 2025, nearly 1,500,000 sheets of archival documents, 250 film documents, 6,035 photographs, and 150 audio documents were digitized at the National Archives of Georgia.
The digitization project, implemented at the National Archives since 2013, aims to transfer archival documents to digital media in order to protect the original documents from physical damage and increase accessibility. The process uses modern technologies and contributes to the preservation of the nation’s heritage. Notably, handwritten documents are digitized using a contactless scanner and, to ensure high-quality digitization of film documents, the films are transferred to digital media with a 4K-resolution film scanner.
Using the digital versions of these documents, five multimedia pages were created on the National Archives’ website during the same period: “Dodo Abashidze – 100”, “Erosi Manjgaladze – 100”, “Kakhi Kavsadze – 90”, “Titsian Tabidze – 130”, as well as the photographic collection of Dimitri Mdzinarishvili.
