Exhibition “Chernobyl after 27 year”

Photo exhibition “Chernobyl after 27 year” was opened today by the General Director of the National Archives, Teona Iashvili, Ukrainian Ambassador to Georgia Vasily Tsibenko and the head of the west Georgian Union of Chernobylians, Jambul Jikia, at the exhibition hall of the National Archives of Georgia. The exhibition features the photos of a young photographer, employee of Chernobyl Heroes Academy of Fire Safety, Igor Burlia, which reflects today’s Chernobyl.

A large quantity of radioactive substances poured out in the local area as a result of Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion. 27 years had passed from the tragedy.

As a result of Chernobyl disaster about 5 million people had been damaged; more than 5 thousand settlements had been contaminated by radioactive substances in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. Out of them 2 218 settlements and cities in Ukraine where 2,4 million people lived.


The photo exhibition will last till April, 24. By the end of April the exposition will be presented in Kutaisi.
