"Georgian Cinema 1920-1930" - Book Presentation, Public Lectures and Retrospective of Restored Films

Georgian Cinema of 1920-1930 - a series of events is held from November 20 to December 20 in cooperation with the Georgian National Film Center and the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. The exhibition pavilion today hosted the presentation of the book "Georgian Cinema 1920-1930". A retrospective of Georgian cinema of 1920-30 was opened today in the cinema hall of the National Archives with the film "Eliso" (1928) by Nikoloz Shengelaia.

The book-album "Georgian Cinema 1920-1930" combines interesting articles, filmography, unique photos and archival material about Georgian cinematographers working in the 20s of the last century. The publication was prepared under the editorship of film critics - Nino Mkheidze and Archil Shubashvili.

From November 20 to December 20, the viewers will have the opportunity to see on the big screen Georgian films, created and digitally restored in the 1920s: "Arsena Georgiashvili", "Krazana", "Amoki", "Young Flying", "Rebellion in Guria", "Surami Castle" , "Father killer" and      others. The films will be presented to the audience by film critics: Irakli Makharadze, Lela Ochiauri, Nino Mkheidze and Teo Khatiashvili.

The project "Georgian Cinema 1920-1930" also includes a series of public lectures, which will be held by Irakli Khvadagiani, Lasha Bakradze, Levan Kalandarishvili, Shota Iatashvili and Nana Kipiani at the National Archives from November 24 to December 15.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, in 2016 the National Film Center started the process of bringing back Georgian films and this process continues to this day. At this stage, about 60 films have been brought from the Russian film repository "Gosfilmofond", of which 34 have been restored.
