The Kutaisi Central Archives celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special event held at its building.
The Kutaisi Central Archives, part of the system of the National Archives of Georgia under the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, was established in 1925. It holds documents dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries that reflect the activities of organizations and the lives of prominent individuals who worked in western Georgia. The archives’ collections preserve historical deeds issued by the kings of Imereti, charters of grace from the Metropolitan Bishops of Kutateli-Gaenati, and census materials. Autographs of notable figures such as Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, Grigol Robakidze, Galaktion Tabidze, Gabriel Kikodze, and others are also preserved there. The archives also house maps of Kutaisi, Batumi and Poti, as well as architectural plans for various historical buildings.
The anniversary event was attended by Paata Salia, Minister of Justice of Georgia, the Deputy Ministers of Justice, Teona Iashvili, Director General of the National Archives, and other invited guests.
To mark the occasion, an exhibition was prepared and a book was published, showcasing the diverse and fascinating archival materials preserved in the Kutaisi Central Archives.
It is worth noting that since 2017, the Kutaisi Central Archives has been operating in a new building. Its modern storage facilities house archival records from Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Samtredia, Oni, Ambrolauri, Tsageri, Lentekhi, Khoni, Vani, Baghdati, Sachkhere, Chiatura and Tkibuli. In total, 905 432 archival units from 4334 funds are preserved in the archives.
