Tao-Klarjeti color slides are available online

The photo collection "Colorful Tao-Klarjeti" was published on the website of the National Archive of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

The online collection features the historical sites photographed on color photo slides by Vano Kikodze, a Georgian emigrant working in Munich, during his trip to the historical region of Georgia, Tao-Klarjeti, in 1950-70: Bana, Oshki, Opiza, Tbeti, Ishkhani, Khakhuli, Solomonis, Tetrtsikhe, Kajistsikhe and others.

Rezo Tabukashvili, a writer, director, and dramatist from Georgia, transferred Vano Kikodze's collection from Munich to Tbilisi in 1987 and gave it to the National Archives. The 550 slides in the collection show the monuments of Erzurum, Antioch, Diyarbakır, Trabzon, and other Turkish settlements in addition to the Georgian monuments of Tao-Klarjeti. "The areas that were thought to be Georgian were my primary focus [during the expeditions to Turkey]. I was the one taking it. In the documentary "From Munich to Georgia," directed by Rezo Tabukashvili, Vano Kikodze spoke about the collection, saying, "Maybe it's not perfect, but it's what we have."
