Thea Tsulukiani met the Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay

On 28 May a meeting between the Minister of Justice of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani and the director general of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay was held in Paris.

During the meeting priorities of UNESCO, regarding Georgia, were discussed. The director general of the organization showed great interest in the working process of the National Archives of Georgia. The Minister of Justice informed the director general about the global summit of “Open Government Partnership”, being held in Georgia on 17-19 July. The chairmanship of the summit was handed over to Georgia by France last year.
The Minister of Justice spoke with the director general about destruction of historical and cultural heritage monuments in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali by the Russian occupation forces. Thea Tsulukiani emphasized the necessity for UNESCO to monitor and study the existent sever conditions on location in order to inspect the problems and prevent any future damages. ~

The Ministry of Justice of Georgia responded to the proposal of the director general of UNESCO to restore cultural heritage, damaged by the Islamic State in Mosul and gave a promise that restorers of the National Archives will get involved in the restoration process.

The discussion also led to different projects of UNESCO by the Ministry of Justice, Education and Science and Culture and Sport.

By the end of the meeting the Minister invited Audrey Azoulay to Georgia.
