A PHOTO COLLECTION OF HISTORICAL MONUMENTS IS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES’ WEBSITE

More than 150 photographic documents depicting Georgian historical monuments from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, preserved in the National Archives of Georgia, are now available online.

The photos of churches, monasteries, fortress-cities and other historical structures serve as significant visual sources for the study of various historical monuments. Among the photos are images of the Alaverdi, Gelati, Bagrati, Likhnisi, Bichvinta, Gremi, Samtavisi, Itria, Ubisi, Kvirike, Ivlita, Motsameta, Nikortsminda, Barakoni, and Sapara churches and monasteries, as well as the castles of Atskhuri, Anagi, Samtsevrisi, Orbeli, Khertvisi, the Besleti bridge and other historical sites.

The collection further includes photographs from the contemporary period, taken as a part of the “National Archives Expeditions” project, which contributes to the documentation and preservation of Georgian cultural heritage within the archive.
