The Representative of UNESCO Memory of the World Programme visited the National Archives

Mr. Lothar Jordan, vice-chair of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) and the chair of the Sub-Committee on Education and Research (SCEaR) of UNESCO Memory of the World Programme met Ms. Teona Iashvili, general director of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

The parties discussed the opportunities of the future cooperation and the implementation of the new projects. Lothar Jordan expressed his desire to create UNESCO Memory of the World Programme committee in Georgia, incorporating The National Archives of Georgia, The National Center of Manuscripts and The National Museum of Georgia.

Besides, the guest was interested with the educational and the research programmes for pupils and students implemented by the National Archives. As he had mentioned, maybe this will be the field of cooperation where the National Archives of Georgia could be in partnership with the Sub-Committee on Education and Research (SCEaR) of UNESCO Memory of the World Programme.

It should be mentioned that The National Archives of Georgia has a long-term cooperation with UNESCO Memory of the World Programme. In 2013 the National Archives nominated Description of the Georgian Kingdom and Geographical Atlas by Vakhushti Batonishvili that was included in the Memory of the World Programme register.

During his visit at the National Archives Lothar Jordan acquainted with the Atlas of Vakhushti Batonishvili, as well as the oldest Georgian manuscripts (8 documents) that are nominated this year.
